Silent Resonance of Purple Tones
A Study of Gu Jingzhou's Zisha Art
About This Book
Silent Resonance of Purple Tones (紫音希声) is a comprehensive scholarly study of Gu Jingzhou (顾景舟, 1915–1996), widely considered the greatest Yixing teapot master of the 20th century. Published in 2015 by SDX Joint Publishing Company, it traces his life, techniques, and influence through 659 pages of photographs, analysis, and historical documentation.
The book covers the full arc of Yixing pottery history — from its Song Dynasty origins through the Ming and Qing dynasties when the craft reached its first peak, to the Republican era when Gu Jingzhou began his apprenticeship, and through the turbulent 20th century to his recognition as a National Living Cultural Treasure.
This website distills the book's content into an accessible English-language resource, covering the 77 teapot styles documented, biographies of 226 artisans mentioned, 231 historical events, and a glossary of 56 key terms.
