Qié Duàn Hú
When a humble eggplant becomes pure clay poetry.
Inspired by the plump, glossy curves of a ripe eggplant, the Qié Duàn Hú is a deceptively simple teapot with a lot of personality. Legendary Yixing master Gu Jingzhou used it as a beginner's exercise — proof that nailing the perfect round form is anything but easy. Full-bodied and grounded, it strikes a beautiful balance between humble vegetable and refined art object.
Gu Jingzhou, one of the greatest Yixing masters of the 20th century, assigned this teapot as a foundational practice piece — because mastering its deceptively simple, organic curves teaches beginners everything they need to know about form, proportion, and balance in purple clay pottery.
